Deacon George Cassis

Deacon George E. Cassis is a native
of Grand Rapids, MI and married to Vasiliki (Vicki Botsis) on August 31,
1974. They have three children, George, Peter and Amalia.
On October 23, 1949, George (Edward) was born to George and Josephine Cassis of Lebanese decent are first generation American born which gave him the opportunity to learn to speak Arabic. He received his Associates Degree in Business Administration in 1971 and worked in the industrial supply business for more than forty years.
George was ordained in 1973 as Subdeacon in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. He began the St. Stephens’ Course of Orthodox Theology in 1990 while attending Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He attended numerous Orthodox Christian SYNERGY Symposiums and various Orthodox workshops such as The Antiochian House of Studies, The Tri-Level Institute at Holy Cross School of Theology. He has been a delegate representing Holy Trinity for Clergy/Laity conferences and has taught generations of acolytes to serve in the Holy Altar.
In May 2011, he made his fourth journey to the Holy Land where he witnessed and was inspired to see where our Lord walked, taught, healed and was crucified for us. His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas ordained George to the Holy Order of Diaconate on November 19, 2011, which is the feast day of the Prophet Obadiah meaning “Servant of the Lord”. He is attached to St Spyridon Chapel at the Metropolis.
