Fr. Nicholas G. Harbatis

Rev. Nicholas G. Harbatis was born in Fitchburg, MA, on the 30th
of April 1926. He graduated from the Pomfret/Brookline Greek Orthodox Seminary
in 1948 where he continued as choir director for two years. He later received a
BS from Wayne State University and took graduate courses at the University of
Detroit.
He married Mary Mamangakis of Brooklyn, N.Y. on the 23rd of January 1949 and was ordained a deacon February 27, 1949, in Dover N.H. and to the priesthood on the 6th of February 1949 at St. Basil’s Academy by Bishop Athenagoras Cavadas. Father and Presvytera have 2 children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
During his 50 years of active service he served in parishes at Woburn, MA, Tampa, FL, Astoria, NY, Ft. Pierce, FL, Miami, FL, and St. Nicholas of Troy, MI which he served intermittently for 32 years.
During his pastorship at St. Nicholas of Troy he organized one of the first summer camp programs which later became known as the Detroit Diocese Summer Camp and continues to operate to this day. Although retired, he actively assists at the Holy Trinity Church of Nashville, TN, substitutes whenever called on by the Detroit Metropolis, and also celebrates the Divine Liturgy at Fort Campbell, KY twice a month.
